Thereโ€™s a famous exercise from Neville Goddard called The Ladder Technique. Itโ€™s simple, but itโ€™s one of the most profound demonstrations of how imagination shapes your world โ€” how the unseen inner picture becomes the seen outer experience.

Hereโ€™s how it works: before falling asleep, you visualize yourself climbing a ladder. You feel the texture of the rungs beneath your hands, the shift of weight as you ascend, and the sense of movement as you go higher. You repeat this for a few nights in the drowsy, half-awake state Neville called โ€œthe state akin to sleep.โ€

During the day, you write on sticky notes, โ€œI will NOT climb a ladder.โ€ You put them everywhere โ€” your mirror, your phone, your dashboard. You tell yourself you wonโ€™t. But deep down, your subconscious holds that image you rehearsed: you did climb it.

Then, you wait. No striving. No forcing. Just trusting.

My Personal Experience with the Ladder Technique

Five months ago, I decided to test it myself.

At the time, I didnโ€™t even own a ladder. In fact, Iโ€™ve never liked them โ€” Iโ€™ve had a healthy fear of heights since I was a kid. So this seemed like the perfect โ€œneutral test.โ€ I figured, If this actually happens, Iโ€™ll know imagination really does create reality.

Three weeks later, I was hired on staff at Reverb Church. ๐Ÿ™Œ

And one of my new responsibilities?
You guessed it โ€” maintaining a massive lightbox sign inside the building, which requires a tall ladder and at least two people to climb up and change the signage or banner.

I remember laughing to myself the first time I stood beneath that ladder, thinking, Okay, God. I see You. I get it.

[above: clip of me after climbing the ladder on the left, to hang the sign]

And as if that wasnโ€™t enough synchronicity, yesterday โ€” as I finished writing this very article โ€” I found myself sitting on the floor with my daughter, playing Chutes and Ladders.

But wait, thereโ€™s more…

After she went to bed, WWE wrestling was on in the background while I continued writing โ€” and out of nowhere, a commercial came on promoting their Money In The Bank event. The prize? The championship belt hanging above the ring… and to win it, youโ€™ve got to climb a ladder!

At that point, I just shook my head and smiled. The message couldnโ€™t have been clearer โ€” when you truly believe in the power of imagination, life will reflect it back to you in ways that are impossible to ignore.

Sometimes the universe doesnโ€™t whisper. It smiles and shouts.

What This Technique Really Teaches

Itโ€™s not about ladders.
Itโ€™s about faith in imagination โ€” the inner world thatโ€™s always creating before anything physical takes shape.

When we deliberately impress a feeling, a scene, or an image onto our subconscious, that blueprint begins to orchestrate outer circumstances to match it. You may not know how it unfolds, but the what becomes undeniable.

The Ladder Technique is just a symbolic way to prove to yourself that imagination is the seed of reality. Once you see that play out, your confidence in this truth skyrockets. You realize: if your mind can manifest a ladder, what else can it create?

How to Try It This Week

  1. Before sleep, visualize yourself climbing a ladder โ€” feel it vividly until it feels real.
  2. During the day, write and post reminders: โ€œI will NOT climb a ladder.โ€ (This paradox helps anchor it deeper.)
  3. Repeat for three nights, then stop. Let go.
  4. Observe what unfolds in the next few weeks. It might not happen exactly as you expect โ€” but it will happen.

The Mindset Lesson ๐Ÿง

Imagination isnโ€™t make-believe. Itโ€™s creation in process.

The world outside you bends to match the world inside you. When you feel something as real โ€” before itโ€™s visible โ€” youโ€™ve already planted the seed of manifestation.

So, whatโ€™s your โ€œladderโ€ right now?
A new opportunity?
Healing in your body or mind?
Financial freedom?
Peace in your home?

Whatever it is, see it, feel it, and climb it in your imagination โ€” long before you see it in reality. Thatโ€™s how transformation begins.

This Weekโ€™s Practice

Tonight, close your eyes and climb your own ladder.
Feel the ascent โ€” not just in your body, but in your belief.
And as you drift to sleep, know this:
Every rung you climb in your imagination lifts you higher in your reality.

Practical Tip:
Journal what you imagined and date it. Then, keep your eyes open for how it shows up. Youโ€™ll be amazed at how the physical world begins to mirror your inner one.

Keep climbing, my friend. ๐Ÿชœ
Growth starts in the unseen โ€” and thatโ€™s where your next breakthrough is already waiting.
