I found one of the hardest things to do along my journey when I would get stuck, was just getting started. There are countless times where I’ve made excuses and procrastinated. That little voice in my head saying, “It’s too cold outside, you can start tomorrow” or “I’ll start that project next week”, etc. Tomorrow turns into next week and next week turns into next month.
One thing that’s helped me over the last year is planking. Every week I incrementally add to my plank time. This has not only helped me physically, but mentally as well. My mindset is on a different level right now. Even though I can barley get through each plank most of the time, the reward I get for challenging myself to push those extra few seconds every week is priceless.
There’s something about setting and achieving those incremental goals that has helped me build up the mental capacity to push myself through, even when my body doesn’t want to. Incremental Planking has not only helped me build confidence physically, but continues to motivate me throughout other parts of my life, including work and family life.
In the spirit of New Year’s resolutions, I want to send out this 30-Day Plank Challenge for those looking for that little nudge. I’m sure like most, you set some New Year’s resolutions and you can add to it with this challenge. If not, hopefully this challenge will help you get started.
